In many countries, the proportion of older people is steadily increasing. Does this trend have more positive or negative effects on the society?
Nowadays, it is thought that aging people is one the most important social issues for lots of countries. Some people opine that it brings about many losses for almost all sectors of society while another group of people argues that it is not harmful to the country. In my own point view its demerits dominate its merits. The following essay takes a look at both sides of the argument.
Many support the view that not only senior citizens have more experience than youth and help the community to achieve its goals such as economic aims but also elderlies result in that society experience social maturity and will decline inaccurate judgment against the social issues and problems. It interprets that their presence in the community forms the alliance among people. Moreover, the high percentage of aged people in a country demonstrates a high level of life expectancy, proper well-being, and healthy lifestyle.
On one hand, the majority of people emphasis on its variety of negative effects on society, including labor and financial markets, demand for goods and services as well as family and intergenerational relationships. For instance, it is assumed that raising the number of old people results in decreasing motivation for enterprise due to the low level of their creativity and taking the risk. That is why fewer individuals are able to run their own business and it leads to declining productivity and international competition.
Furthermore, it is undeniable that appeal for treatment services will raise via enormous of aged people who suffer from some chronic disease and government's main priority will be to spend more budget on the health care system. In fact, the consumption path and living standard will change by going up the number of aging people in society. At the same time, labor force supply is limited to provide their needs.
In conclusion, it is evident to increase life expectancy as a consequence of the third millennium has some threats for economy, politics, and society and aged people process's pros outweigh its cons. Modification of attitudes, behaviors, institutions, and public policies are needed to cope with this paradox.
